, has left this world for one of peace and contentment on November 24, 2006
from complications of Alzheimer’s, kidney and heart disease. Born Beverley
Vidal Michel, Jr., March 31, 1925, he was a veteran of both World War II and
the Korean War, as well as an honored member of The Shriners and a Master of
The Scottish Rite. Bev was a strong influence on many, not only in his role
as a French teacher at both Patrick Henry and Roanoke Catholic high schools,
but in his other endeavors as a notable wine salesman and entrepreneur,
travel coordinator, insurance salesman and TV host. A graduate from
Jefferson
High School
and the
University
of
Virginia
, he was a man of many interests and talents, including photography, travel,
music, and multiple foreign languages. Pre-deceased by his parents
Alma
Electra Martin Michel of Callaway and Beverley Vidal Michel, Sr. of
Roanoke
, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Cunningham Michel and
daughters Becky Michel Clark and Lynn Michel Flora and husband Charles, and
grandchildren Nic Gilliam, Peter Clark, and Megan Flora.
The family would very much like to extend their deepest
appreciation to all those who cared for him in his later years including Dr.
Robert Keeley and staff, the wonderful and attentive friends and neighbors
on Maiden Lane, and all of the kind, dedicated, and caring people at the
Virginia Veterans Care Center during the short time he was there. We
couldn’t have made it without each and every one of you. Thank you.
The family will receive friends at the Michel home at
2230 Maiden Lane, SW
, in
Roanoke
from 4 PM to 8 PM on November 26, 2006. In lieu of flowers, the family is
requesting donations be made to American Lung Association of Virginia, 3512
Brambleton Ave. Suite 3, Roanoke, VA 24018 or to the Alzheimer’s
Association, Blue Ridge of Virginia Chapter, 2728 Colonial Ave. Suite 2,
Roanoke, VA 24015 to help those in need.
